About Us
We support children in learning, thriving, and leading change.
Journey Love catalyzes the power of the most vulnerable children to create the future they imagine: for themselves, for their communities, and for young people of America.
We are an organization that focuses on giving back to the community around the South Bay Area. We aim to provide direction to those struggling around us, through a multitude of projects and initiatives. These incentives include cooking, tennis, and volunteering to teach children in a local afterschool program.
Founder: James Lai
He is a senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School in Rolling Hills Estates, California. He has many personal interests, such as tennis and cooking. He aspires to become a business major in college.
Boys Scouts Projects
Our community is very dedicated to Boys Scouts activities.
Participating in Boy Scout activities and earning badges allows someone to become eligible to be an Eagle Scout.
Our troop just completed an Eagle Project that dedicated to Toberman Neighborhood Center. We will help others achieve these goals as well.
Athletics
We have been playing tennis since elementary school. We love to practice with friends for many hours every week. It keeps us physically healthy and mentally strong. We joined varsity tennis team since freshman and we have won many titles together over the years. We were chosen to be the captain of the high school varsity tennis team. We coach children how to play tennis.
Cooking Projects
We founded an authentic food club (Traditional Food Cooking Club) at our school which demonstrates to our fellow students, how easy it is to make delicious international dishes. We also participated in annual Father’s Day church bakesale to fundraise for youth summer camp program.
Work experience
Working part-time as a waiter at a local Chinese restaurant provided an inspiring life experience. During working hours, we noticed that their menu was extremely outdated and covered with grammatical errors. We translated the names of the dishes into proper English. Using our photography and computer skills, we redesigned the menu to emphasize the best dishes at the restaurant. The new menu immediately led to an increase in sales. We are very proud of ourselves to be able to support local business as teenagers.
Intern projects
Besides multiple activities, we can organize students to work at multiple jobs. We work part time as receptionists at the Jack Kramer Club. We have also obtained a California Food Handler’s Certificate, so we are training and working in the club’s café as cook.
Volunteerism
Volunteering resonates with a special place in our hearts. We meet regularly with the children in their afterschool programs to teach them how to cook child-friendly recipes, such as spam musubi and garlic bread.
We have participated in many civic activities. We have been active in beach beautification programs to help collect trash at our local beaches. We also volunteered with the Friendship Foundation’s Skechers Walk. We helped organize the group’s medals that were given to the participants at the end of their walks. We have involved in many other charitable activities.
Mission and Vision
We have always tried to maintain a curious mind and healthy body in order to see opportunities to help. Through many hours of extracurricular activities and volunteerism, we believe we have been able to improve the lives of many people. We allow students to communicate and cooperate with other club-mates. We provide a vibrant environment where all students can feel safe and welcome. We want to recruit compassionate teenagers to participate in all of our activities.
